The End

Well this is it. I really enjoyed the training even though at first I had a hard time with it. I loved Goodreads, the Flickr toys, and the podcasts. It feels really good to know that I can learn to do new things with technology and there are coworkers to help when I get stuck. It's also nice to see what other people all over are doing online. The best was when I was able to help a coworker with one of their Things that I had a rough time doing myself. I like blogging but I don't know if I'll keep up with it. Maybe I'll get a computer and go crazy as a famous blogger. You just nevah, evah know! Thanks Sarah for working so hard on this and making it a great training. Thanks for helping me too! I love your video, can I get an autograph? A black and white glossy headshot made out to Princess Patty will be fine...

NetLibrary

I have successfully downloaded a book from NetLibrary and I'm listening to it right now. I couldn't find a lot by my favorite authors but I doubt NetLibrary has a lot of fluffy chick lit. It seems pretty easy to use and I didn't have any problems searching or downloading. It's okay to have if you like cdbooks or really like to read off a computer screen which I'm not big on. This cdbook is cracking me up because the book I downloaded is about a New York socialite but the narrator is speaking with a British accent. Very weird. Anyway, NetLibrary is cool for what it is.

Podcasts!!!

I'm cheating a little on this Thing because I'm not going to add a podcast to my GoogleReader account. I never check it and I wasn't very into it any way so adding to it seems to be a waste. The podcast I pulled up and reviewed is The Masthead with Marie Claire. I enjoy reading Marie Claire and always see mentions about The Masthead in the magazine so I thought this would be the perfect excuse to check out their podcast. I wanted to be a fashion editor for a long time and The Masthead is all about behind-the-scenes at a magazine so that's probably why I enjoyed it. Podcasts seem to be a step up from youtube videos in that you can have a website devoted solely to your podcast and what it's all about. The Masthead is pretty fancy but that's because they are constantly plugging sponsors so I'm sure it's being paid for with big bucks. It's all about Dove products! A library could have a lot of fun with podcasts and reach a lot of people meaning potential patrons. We could do informative podcasts about services we offer, interviews with librarians, authors and programs we have could be podcast, etc. I personally would love to have short reality TV casts or a library news cast called something like "News...behind the Desk". We could have our own version of The View! Ideas are formulating so I guess now I need to read the articles on how to do all this.....look out world, a star is born!

here's another one

thing 20

This is awesome so have a listen!
I love YouTube and I think it's great that libraries are using it to make commercials and advertise what they are offering.

Thing 19

I just played with HairMixer and had a blast! I don't know how this site could help with library stuff except maybe to have a few laughs. We can't underestimate the value of laughter though so maybe it's okay. I liked being able to choose from a lot of topics and that there were runner-up websites along with the top three. Handy dandy. I'm going to go play some more!

Google doc Thing

I like the Google doc thingie so you don't have to worry about keeping up with a floppy or flash drive. It's pretty cool that you could access important documents from any computer at any time. This was one of those brillant ideas someone woke up in the middle of the night super excited about. Why couldn't it have been me you ask? Well, I was too busy spending my dream millions in some exotic locale and couldn't be bothered with it. My great dream ideas usually are about important things such as food and my fabulousity quotient (some days it is high, some not so much). Anyway-good stuff and I'm sure it could be used in many ways in liberry's but I'm too tired to think of any right now and I have to go be on the desk. "Just another Manic Monday...whoa-oh-whoa..." another music interlude for your pleasure.

Wiki wiki ha ha

That was an interesting experience. It took me a few minutes to figure out what was what but I did manage to add my blog to the favorites and add two books to the favorite books section. I had a hard time with the link on the second book. The first link did fine but the second about caused a minor seizure. You will all just have to live with the fact that the book title and author are both underlined instead of just the book title. I really don't care if it means correct form or my sanity. I was extremely pleased with myself when I figured out the link thing to amazon by my own self. In other news I got a free mp3 player from Blue Cross and have downloaded songs to it all on my own. Michelle told me the procedure and then I DID IT! Quite headline news worthy. "Can't nobody hold me down-I got to keep on movin'.." (Music interlude) Onwards and upwards....
